Two NC State undergraduate students have been selected to receive the J.C. Whitehurst, Jr. Agricultural Scholarship for the 2014-2015 academic year.   The recipients are Christopher C. Westmoreland of Huntersville, NC  and William T. Nixon of Hertford, NC.

Westmoreland, a senior majoring in Plant and Soil Science with a minor in Agricultural Business, plans to return home after graduation to his family farm where he hopes to continue the family business for many more generations.

Nixon, a junior in Plant and Soil Science, plans to graduate in Fall 2015.  He’d like to pursue his Master’s Degree, and upon graduation, work for the NC Department of Agriculture as a regional agronomist.

In its second year, this merit-based scholarship is awarded to two qualified students who are pursuing a degree related to agriculture or agribusiness in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS).  The scholarship was established to invest in the potential of bright students who will be tomorrow’s leaders in an important industry which greatly impacts the economies of North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.  For more information about the scholarship, please visit our scholarship page.
