On September 6, 2019, NC State celebrated the ground-breaking on a state-of-the-art Plant Sciences Building. Designed to be a world-leading center for plant science research and innovation, this building is the cornerstone of the Plant Sciences Initiative aimed at solving agricultural challenges, such as increasing crop yields, extending growing seasons, creating new varieties and improving sustainability.

“Coastal AgroBusiness is pleased to be making a financial investment in the Plant Sciences Building” said Jim Whitehurst, President of Coastal AgroBusiness.  “There’s no better place than North Carolina for this bold undertaking, and we are excited about what this initiative will do for the future of agriculture.”  Agriculture is the #1 industry in the state, and our crops, soils and climate are diverse.  The building’s proximity to ag and biotech industry leaders across the state is ideal for collaboration with NC State engineers and scientists.

Located on NC State’s Centennial Campus, the 5-story, 185,000 square foot facility is being built for flexibility where teams of scientists and experts across disciplines will come together to tackle specific, complex challenges.  The building will house rooftop greenhouses, flexible research labs and inviting seminar, lecture and meeting spaces.  The lobby of the main lecture hall will display the name of Coastal AgroBusiness. The building is scheduled for completion in late 2021.
