Coastal is pleased to announce the two recipients of the JC Whitehurst, Jr. Agricultural Scholarship for the 2019-2020 academic year.

Savannah Strickland, from Mount Olive, NC, is a senior majoring in Agricultural Business Management with minors in Economics and Spanish.  After graduation, she hopes to work in digital agriculture, assisting growers with new technologies that improve efficiency.

Christopher Bryce Modlin grew up on a small family farm in Eastern NC and has fond memories from an early age of working in the fields with his grandfather. His enthusiasm for agriculture led him to pursue a degree in Agribusiness with a minor in Crop Science.  He is now in his junior year at NCSU with career goals to work directly with farmers in a sales capacity and continue to promote the agriculture profession.

In its seventh year, the JC Whitehurst, Jr. Agricultural Scholarship is a merit-based scholarship, awarded to two qualified students who are pursuing degrees related to agriculture or agribusiness in the NCSU College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS). The scholarship was established to invest in the potential of bright students, who will be tomorrow’s leaders in an important industry which greatly impacts the economies of NC, SC and VA.
